What is provided when my pet boards?
When you bring your dog to Continental, we provide food, bowls, bedding, and toys. We feed a low fat, high fiber diet from Royal Canin that is specifically designed to be gentle on your dog's tummy for an easier transition. We understand that boarding a dog for any length of time can be stressful, especially if it is unexpected, and we try to make their stay more relaxing and enjoyable as possible. The less owners have to stress about what items to bring, the less stressed the dog will be as well.
Can I bring my dog's food, toys, and bedding?
If your dog is on a special diet or if you feel more comfortable with bringing your dog's items from home, you are more than welcome. Please keep in mind that our staff carries all items back and forth to the kennel for your dog so please only pack enough food for the stay (a little extra just in case is welcome). Bedding and toys are also welcome but please bring only a couple of toys as we will keep everyone entertained while they are here.
What vaccinations are required?
We require proof of a currrent Rabies (3yr or 1yr are acceptable), Distemper [DHLPP, DA2PP, ect. (3yr or 1yr are acceptable)], and Bordetella (1yr is acceptable). We will also accept distemper titers. This policy is in affect for all of out guests either boarding or for playcare, and our number one concern is for the safety of your pets.
If I do not sign my dog up for exercise options, will they be alone in their suite the whole time?
No. Dave and the entire staff are in and out of the building throughout the day, and they always stop and say hello to our guests. It takes time to keep the kennel clean, but we try to make every guest feel at home as much as possible, even if this means putting our other duties on hold for a few minutes.
What is the difference between VIP walks and playcare?
VIP stands for Very Individualized Playtime which is one 20 minute playtime with kennel staff. If you have more than one guest staying with us, they will be taken out together to play fun games with staff. Playcare is an exercise option where boarding dogs will be taken into either our 5-acre big dog field or our 1-acre small dog field to play with dogs of their size and kennel staff from 8am - 4pm.
If my dog is signed up for a bath or nail trim, what times can I pick up?
On Monday through Friday, your dog may be picked up after 12pm if they are getting a bath, and on Saturday, they can be picked up after 10am. This gives our staff enough time to get everyone bathed and for your pet to be throughly dry before you pick them up.
Do you bathe dogs on Sunday for Sunday pick up?
Yes, we have dogs ready by 4pm for our pick up times on Sunday.
What is required for my dog to participate in playcare?
Dogs who are over 6 months of age must be spayed/neutered; dogs must be at least 12 weeks of age; there must be proof of up to date vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella); a completed application; and the dog must be screened by our trainer before they are allowed to participate in playcare. Our policies are put in place for the safety of all playcare dogs and our staff.
Are there breed limitations for playcare and boarding?
Yes. We have breed limitations for playcare only. WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY BULLY BREEDS OR BULLY BREED MIXES FOR PLAYCARE, NO EXCEPTIONS! These include pit bulls, bull terriers, and staffordshire terriers. Please keep in mind that we do not discriminate against any breeds for boarding; however, for the safety of playcare dogs and staff, we cannot allow these breeds to intermingle with playcare dogs. We appologize for any inconvenience.
When is the best time to drop my dog(s) off for their first day of playcare?
The best time is at 7am when we open Monday - Friday. We prefer this because there are the least amount of dogs in the field when your dog is screened and introduced. We do understand that your schedule may not allow you to do this and it is merely our suggestion.
